Hi , if my company decides to close our officesite and ask every one to work from home , I want to move out of bay area . please recommend best state in USA to relocate to ?? Cheaper rent and good elementary schools is what I am looking for . TC : 180K Also , can h1b workers allowed to work from home permanently??? #remotework #wfh #moveoutofbayarea
Louisiana
Austin Texas is fun. Gets hot during summer though. Other than that good place. Also might wanna look at some place in like North Carolina or something if you love some greenery. Denver Colorado is pretty too, gets really cold though. No perfect weather place- SF is good for that Tampa has good beach and is cheap, fun places within couple of hours drive too. Hot and humid though
"no perfect weather place" SF is too cool for most people. San Diego would like to have a word.
I guess it’s relative, SF is perfect for me, San Diego is a bit warm.
Detroit is super cheap
From MI living in the Bay. Weather so bipolar there we keep a jacket in our trunk all the time.
On H1B you can’t work remote 100% of the time!
Incorrect. I'm on h1b and working remote for the last 2 years.
Sacramento is a good option. I recommend Elk Grove
Portland or Nashville
If you work at Dell why not move to Round Rock or somewhere in the Hill Country where you can work from home but still go in if needed for your immigration requirements.
Atlanta, GA. Northern Atlanta has some really good schools and Ofcourse we have GTech.
+1 for Atlanta
I'd suggest looking into state income tax. Some states have zero income tax. In other scenarios you could end up working for a company in one state (i.e. New York) living in another state and having to pay state income tax for both states.
Isn’t that too long of a shot?
Agree. I can't handle the rent in Bay area and tough being a single parent . Need to save up. The kind of work I do , I am confident that I can be safe in the company for few years at least . I am trying to be positive .
Look at Twitter new today regarding permanent WFH. What looked a long shot few days back does not look that way anymore. This might become the norm. Companies might save tons of money in rent, electricity, free food etc.
