Recently got an offer from SAP Canada for full-time employment. But I have been a contractor for many years and have some loyal clients that want me to continue working with them even for a few hours each week. They are in financial sector. Assuming that I will be able to manage the workload, would this side work be considered against the SAP employment rules? And could I face legal issues in future? I checked the offer and the attached legal documents and didn't see any rule prevent such side work. Just a reminder: I'm talking about SAP Canada in particular. #offer #legal #sidework TC: 100k (contract) YOE: 3 (contract)
Why are you going from contract to full time op? I heard if you are contracting, that is better than being salaried FTE from tax standpoint. Is this not true?
Actually one reason is taxes. I have to pay a lump sum of money at the end of the year. I prefer to pay it in installments with each paycheck instead
Ok but the tax liability is same from both contacting or FTE assuming both pay similar amount? Or for contacting its less?
To answer your question: people do this all the time(google “overemployed”). Check both your contracts for any exclusivity/conflict of interests clauses. It is still a gray area though. If SAP finds out about your other job they might not allow it. Depends on the company. I’ve seen employers in the past who don’t care as long as the job gets done.
This is directly in violation with SAP Canada policies and Employee handbook will shed more light on this.
Sap has a mandatory approval process which you will need to go through. Given that there is no conflict of interest (competing, working for customers or partners of sap will be considered) and does not take too much time to have an impact on your full time job, it should be allowed
Consult with your employment contract and a local lawyer.
Thanks for the advice. I wanted first to see if someone had a similar experience to share.
In that case, pay the blind tax first or GTFO
