People that work at Netflix, what are you thoughts "... based on an extensive profile of the company’s culture, the streaming company certainly seems to have built a unique version of corporate hell." https://gizmodo.com/working-at-netflix-sounds-like-hell-1830020977/amp
They make enough money to afford water
I’m not sure it’s that bad. This is obviously an opinion piece written from a specific perspective. Every company has its own culture that helps create a path to its success or collapse. There’s tons of people from other FANG and non fang that are constantly complaining about poor performing employees that get away with their lack of effort or talent. Netflix is essentially saying, if you’re not essential then we don’t need you. It’s a solution to the complaint. It’s probably not carried out perfectly and I’m sure politics get involved but at the end of the day I doubt people are complaining about dealing with poor performing employees. Not only that but they compensate well enough for people to take that risk. Also Netflix knows how hard it is to succeed so all their layoffs get a great severance. Yeah no, that's creepy. It's not like Netflix is ACTUALLY an especially high performance engineering organization
Haha what?! They have an amazingly robust infrastructure that rivals any other company. Read their tech blog. Also they engage in a pretty unique devops practice considering the size of the company. The employees are all empowered to make major decisions that affect millions of users, the only caveat is that they are also held accountable. It’s great if you’re a talented engineer that doesn’t want a babysitter
Netflix runs like a pro sports team. That's all. Not everyone wants a job like that, and it's OK.
But pro sport teams earn over 10 millions a year.
Assuming you’re talking about the players, some do, most don’t.
I’ve been at other fang companies, and have been very satisfied/happy at Netflix. Ymmv, but I don’t feel it is any different than any other companies out there.
It is very different from other companies. You are either in a very good spot at Netflix, or deluding yourself 🙂. The whole hoopla around 360, the keep test, etc. works against the morale of most individuals
Most of the article is true. As someone said, it is brutal but efficient and lot of good people get caught in it too. And it's not for everyone and that's ok too
How long you been at Netflix?
I certainly get that impression whenever I talk to my ex-Yahoo buddies at Netflix. For the kind of pay you get at Netflix, you really expect them to feel enthusiastic about it. But that’s not the case. Those that used to be very happy people became zombies at Netflix.
