Do you like it there - comp, culture, growth, projects? Based on what I’ve seen on Blind, the comp isn’t high or low, the culture isn’t good or bad, the potential for growth is still there despite its stock performing well. Also heard that the average age is slightly older and culture is more mature than your typical bro startup. Is Square the canonical ‘average’ SF tech company (relative to the most successful ones)? Side note: I have Product interview so advice would also be appreciated, there’s scarcity of info on glassdoor.
I would love to work for Square if I move back to the Bay Area. I had an offer in the past and moved to Amazon for personal reasons
🤦♂️
Square has a Seattle office
Depends on what you’re looking for. Personally I think Square is growing more and more towards a big Corp. if you are young, talented, ambitious and have high risk tolerance, I personally recommend not to join. If you have some experience and want a slightly faster pace and potential bigger upside than FANG, Square is a pretty good option. Overall, I’d say Square is above average.
Thanks a lot! What’s the sentiment of people working at Square, are you optimistic of it becoming like Salesforce (big, promising and still innovating) or its just like SAP CRM (just coasting along, not the biggest but won’t die either)? For the lack of better analogy. I think Square is in between.
Square will be bigger than Salesforce in 7 years.
I’m cautiously optimistic. The company is disciplined yet still making big moves. I believe in our market, product and leadership. But it’s definitely higher volatility than FANG. So know what’s right for your risk tolerance
Feels like Squares chances of performing worse is less than that of FANG which have been at ATH and dominate their category for so long now.
Leadership is awesome. Most of the people you’ll work with are great. Still small enough where you can come in and make huge impact even as an IC. Fairly flat org though that might change. No titles. Little politicking. I have worked at a Silicon Valley giant and worked at small start ups. Square is bang in the middle. I’d say best of both worlds. Caveat it by saying we really need to make sure Wall Street understands our business. If Wall Street still things of $SQ as just another payment processor that would spell trouble.
Hmm back in 2015 maybe. I think Wall Street understands us very well nowadays. In fact, I think they are thinking way too much into some of the moves we are making
Pretty much the *only* complaints are: 1) comp for new hires is low, and 2) right wing/conservative viewpoints are frowned upon. Yet as the stock has appreciated, now everyone has become grossly overpaid. Go figure 🤷♂️ Culture, WLB, growth all A+ otherwise. Really is a wonderful place to work.
Hi, can I request for a referral for a Frontend position at Square? Thanks
