Alexa AI team looks like very new team, will there be any pip for the new team ?

If your performance is really bad and you are not making any improvements, you will be PIPed anyways (which is true with lot of companies). But rather Amazon’s problem is it has forceful URA quota per year that every L8 with more than “x” number of employees under them must meet. This pressure is propagated to L7 and L6 managers which lead to forceful PIP (even though someone did not deserve it) and other bad practices. As long as that L8 does not yet have “x” number of employees under them, forceful URA quota should not be present for them.
Under L8 there are many openings, it means they didn’t meet the quota still ?
I think you dont have an idea what URA is. Its “unregretted attrition”. Amazon must let go 6% of its employees annually, no matter what. Your L8 can now have just 10 people under them and have only 5 open positions. A few years later, same L8 can have 100 people under them and 50 more open positions. Number of new openings have nothing to do with that “x” number I was talking about.
