How’s it like working at newly public tech companies? (Datadog, zuora, shopify, smartsheet, Okta, Elastic) Is the comp pretty good? (close to FAANG level) How’s the WLB and perks? How much faster is career growth? (promotion every 1-2 years if you’re doing well?) Would be especially curious to hear from pepple who came from Google/FB and how the experience compares.
Make sure they are profitable
New grad (but I did an internship at Google), very lucky to get in before the IPO because stock appreciation has been insane. More responsibility, and I feel like I have a larger impact compared to Google.
Glad to hear that! How big is the eng team? Is there still a lot of scope left to tackle? Any newly formed data or ML teams?
Made a killing off Shopify equity over the last 3 years, base pay is meh though
Is total compensation similar to FAANG? I hear conflicting numbers for shopify
Equity growth over the last few years makes it higher than FAANG, otherwise much lower if you don’t factor that in. Also different locations though (not much hiring in the Bay Area historically), so maybe with the new remote strategy, things will be different
They only went public recently :) and it’s has a long growth runaway unlike some of the bigger tech companies
Datadog is mostly in nyc. There is one team in bay area, i’ve heard it’s good people there.
They're also in Boston and I've heard good things
