What are your thought about Workplace by Facebook and its chances to take over Slack, Skype/Teams and the other tools in that space?
I don't know if Facebook can overcome the perception challenges associated with it's consumer products but as a workplace solution, it's vastly better than the alternatives. as an ex-fber, I miss how easy it was to communicate and collaborate using fb. it's jarring to go back to relying on email and occasionally slack for collaboration. on the plus side, I like gsuite since quip was the worst.
Why do you think quip is the worst?
completely broken search and organization system, illogical notification clustering, terrible formatting options, and printing is just broken. don't even get me started on it's sorry excuse for a spreadsheet. the commenting and collaboration is okay. gdocs and heck even office 365 are both miles better. still better than Zoho docs but that's a stupid low bar.
meh. it will fizz out.
I don't think so, it's growing at a strong and consistent pace.
Workplace is lightyears better than Email and Slack for communicating and collaboration at work. Will be sad to lose it if I leave FB.
Workplace is too slow (the web version) almost as slow as fb desktop. Also it is oriented for posting short passages and chat conversations. It cannot replace something like google doc or word
@Morata, instead of trying to replace Microsoft Word or Google Docs, Workplace has added strong integrations with those content providers, as well as more (Quip, Dropbox, Box, Salesforce). No need to compete, when we could simply integrate well.
I was skeptical because the last thing people need to be doing is spending more time on FB. But it works well as an intranet / SharePoint replacement for company and team announcements and public communication between different org groups. The messaging platform isn't as useful as Slack, and I can't set do-not-disturb hours. But aside from that it has worked well for us.
Can you guys guess what I will miss most if I leave Facebook? Free food? Nope. I will miss Facebook@Work (now Workplace by FB) most. We simply communicate everything through Workplace. We virtually don't use emails. We use both social and serious work-related communications. Sometimes a lot of discussions and debates. We are also allowed to share/discuss our compensations in our Facebook. Very easy to communicate. Slack? Just meh to me. I am not a heavy user of personal Facebook at all, but Workplace is great. Seriously great. It can change your company culture.
True, Workplace is just awesome! I hardly use my personal Facebook account, but Workplace ... I am in love with it. If only we could switch to GSuite for all other stuff ... 100% happiness everywhere; Workplace + GSuite would be awesome together. I worked at a few other places before, but nothing comes close to collaboration using workplace.
Strong no. No one wants to associate their work with their personal life on Facebook.
Accounts are completely separate though. It is not even an option to link your personal Facebook to Workplace
It's the perception part. People will think if I post offensive stuff on Facebook can my employer see it? Prob. Not but still gonna be top of mind. Would've been better for Facebook to change the name of the product.
