Currently working as a Data Scientist, Base ~90K... location Colorado Got a new offer as a Sr Data Analyst from Genentech Base 140k Bay Area + 10% bonus I feel I am downgrading myself from a Data Science background to an analyst background... I know I can target data science jobs and get more pay... Is it worth a switch and downgrade my role for more pay? Edit: Currently I am working on ML & deep learning, but the new role has just SQL & reporting... #genentech #datascience #dataanalyst
Consider this-your 150k odd TC has the potential to turn into 200-250k after 2 years. Will 90k turn into 150k in Colorado?
What I am thinking is, it really hard to switch to a data scientist position from an analyst role.. I am already in the data science position so I don't want to downgrade... I doubt if 90k will turn into 150 here in any near future.. but I can target data science positions in different companies with more experience...
Data “science” and analyst are all the same in most companies.
Stay in colorado and continue gaining experience. $140k is not enough to move to the Bay area for an analyst role. The place is sh*t. Especially the area where Genentech is.
The only thing to consider is whether you enjoy being in a DS role in the current company. If you do and see yourself pursuing this path then you'll eventually be making more money and moving to better places. 140k is pretty useless in bay area for a largely replaceble role.
Is that really more money considering COL?
90k COL > 140k in the Bay area? I never lived in the Bay area.. I heard it is v costly.. but not sure if this pay is good for the bay area ...
Also state income tax (though maybe CO does too) google cost of living comparison calculator.
