Got a recruiter ping to interview at the payments checkout company Fast. They have people hired from Uber, Lyft, Google and raised $100M from Stripe. I said yes, but did some research and found: - They rescinded an offer after it was signed: https://twitter.com/chloecondon/status/1368592714401390601?s=21 - CEO fired all Nigerian contractors who built v1 without warning as soon as he got seed investment https://twitter.com/cherthedev/status/1369066525148200961?s=21 - The same CEO ran his previous trucking (!) company in Australia (!!) in the ground and fired everyone via text messages (!!!) https://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-06-24/brisbane-towing-firm-liquidated-staff-told-jobs-gone/9903794 Can someone tell me why I should entertain interviewing with these folks? Uber people, help me out: the other cofounder is an early Uber employee and a big shot (she wrote that she built Instant Pay), and their VP of engineering led 12 teams at Uber, which seems super impressive https://theorg.com/org/fast/org-chart/cem-yildirim #uber #stripe #lyft #fast #tech
Can you expand?
He later apologized and said that he meant "taking care of your health is important for doing good work". But the fact that he had such a blind spot already says a lot
I talked to them last year. It seemed like they were still developing the basic components of the system at the time so I was really surprised to hear they wanted to raise at 1B valuation later in the year. Seems aggressive. Not a fan of the CEO’s personality, just not for me. I think I would be annoyed every single day at work. His history doesn’t inspire confidence either. Not sure whether this will end well or poorly, but if I’m being honest I wouldn’t have even considered this if Stripe hadn’t invested
What about the COO? Sounds like she was a big shot at Uber, building eg Instant Pay: https://mobile.twitter.com/abarrallen/status/1361712755149926400 Have you heard anything of her? Seems like at least she’s a big deal.
Also VP eng seems to have led 12 teams at Uber (!!) https://theorg.com/org/fast/org-chart/cem-yildirim
all CEOs of successful companies are going have some batshit crazy trait about them. its up to you to decide if dealing with their BS will work for you or not. this guy sounds like a nutjob that i wouldn't want to work with personally, and the product is also kind of meh - i mean it's just a purchase checkout page lol
Hard pass.
Know the VP, true, he was senior engineering manager at Uber, but definitely not managing 12 teams... last time I checked it was around 10 reports
I know that team very well, he had a very mixed reputation with that team. I would definitely not want to work for him
I’d love to hear more
Oh wow. The VP seemed like the biggest reason to even consider. I’m gonna cancel the phone interview, this company doesn’t look good (and I have others lined up).
Yikes
