I left my job at Meta about a year ago after I had revenue from my own apps around $80k. I left with no debt and a good nest egg. I have my apps which still make me almost six figures but I’ve been struggling to make them grow. I’ve spent a lot of time just enjoying life. Im 25, spend a lot of time with my girlfriend, travel, eat out often, and I can sustain this so far without really touching my savings. I do feel like im stagnating a bit and want to do something fulfilling. Not sure returning to corporate is the best move. Am thinking get a PhD in quantum computing, which would also pay me $50k per year as a living stipend. I’ve been trying to think of a big company to build, but I can’t think of much. Especially in the mobile space, it feels like a lot of rankings don’t change much so it’s hard to make a dent. I love my freedom so much so am conflicted about returning to the workforce.
I would continue what you are doing esp with a Ph.D down the line. You can always return to tech in a different role. DM if you would like to speak more on your current projects
Dude you have it good.. keep exploring..
So don’t go back to corporate?
Have you seen the pending recession? Who said they’d hire you with layoffs and hiring freezes?
So the reason to return to tech would be to make more money (not too important) and for more engagement/fulfillment. You can find a company and team that really resonates with you, and not place too much emphasis on the pay
Are you a SWE? PM?
I used to work as a SWE. I probably would be making $300k TC at Facebook if I didn’t leave
You sound like someone who’s going to make it big one day, no cap. I would say that the job market right now is good but going toward terrible. I would invest in a PhD while you’re young so that by the time you get out, everything will be up and you’ll be able to command a better role and pay. Do a short stint with a company until you have some business sense and launch your own thing. I doubt blind will be around at that time but post about it somewhere so I can say I saw that guy post before he took off. You got this my guy.
Thanks for the words. I’m applying right now to PhD programs in quantum computing so if I get into a good school that’ll be a move. Fulfillment is probably a reason I left my job in the first place so hoping a PhD can help with that
Alternatively, work now and buy assets during a recession that 2x+ while you're in school
Sell your company for 5x revenue multiple. Use the proceeds to invest in Dogecoin, sit back, and retire
Don't forget to enjoy what you have.
For sure, I’m definitely super lucky to be able to live like this.
Are you Nikita Bier?
No haha
Keep exploring ways to grow your business. You can always return to big tech later, your revenue is substantial enough to survive with.

With this market… I’d wait. Lots of freezes and not a candidate market like it was 9-10 months ago
