I like to work full-stack or front-end and want to continue to do so going forward. I’m currently job searching and talked to Square about a full-stock with an emphasis on front-end opportunity they have. They said most of their front-end work is in Ember.js, including this role. I’m a bit hesitant to take up a job using Ember over React; I don’t want to work on an unpopular framework in fear it won’t be attractive to future employers and could negatively impact my career growth. Am I overthinking this or is this a valid concern? YoE: 4 TC: 135k
No. The framework doesn't matter. Ember, react, angular, vue, whatever... They're all similar where skills transfer from one to another similar to languages. The patterns will remain the same
yes
i had a bunch of FE interview loops that required me to work in react, it may be an issue. but some companies like google or snap just ask general javascript stuff.
No. The overall product and skills matter. Experience you gain in building systems can be used in your next jobs. New languages come everyday. Get more money and better experience and be happy!
No.. resume is just to get you to interview. Everything beyond is how you perform. Be prepared for Leetcode mediums
Leetcode for front end interviews?
No. Like others said, your career should be framed through impact instead of specific tech skills. That being said, I come from a React/Typescript background and working in the large Ember codebases here in JS is not a fun experience.
Would you say it’s to the point where you wouldn’t recommend it?
To each their own, but personally I’d much rather be working in React and at the very least Typescript. There’s some teams embedding React apps now within the Ember apps so that might be worth asking about if you’re interested
I know a lot of teams are planning to move to react or other alternatives. It is team dependent.
Yea there is a shift towards react, but I wouldn't worry about it, square is great!
lol Square is great.. until you need to push a company wide initiative. It’s so bottom up there is zero cohesion. Nothing gets done but small projects. Great for startups but will never scale unless something changes
