Would anyone from Google leave for Microsoft?

Lol I heard google has good tools. Does Microsoft? Amazon has pretty damn good tools and I wouldn’t be happy without them.
I'd imagine people there use visual studio for developing, which is pretty great. On the other hand, Outlook.
what good tools available at amazon?
I'd rather work on Azure than GCP. My problem is I don't want to move to Redmond.

If I had to move to Seattle area and didn't want to work in a satellite office for FG, I'd choose Microsoft over Amazon because of their interesting projects portfolio. Not saying Amazon doesn't have nice projects but it's all about cloud and shopping now.
MS is super easy to be in the top. Google requires some work. If TC is the same, I'd take an easy position at MS. Unfortunately, Google pays so much more...
How is Microsoft’s research division compared to Google’s? It almost seems like Microsoft research carries the “secretive” small bunch vibe.
It's not really secretive. Most of b99 is accessible. You can see all the cool tech at tech fest. There are some truly amazing things going on. MSR is a lot like being a professor at a university. However, things are not as rosey as they were 6 years ago. Google and Facebook pay a lot more, have a better shot at turning research ideas into impactful products. Lots of great people have left for G and F. On the bright side, MSR offers more freedom to researchers than F or G. MSR is very political and people care too much about PhDs and academic pedigree.
I can't find the links anymore, but of all privately funded research team, MSR had by for the largest number of cited computer science paper last year.
I know folks who moved to G for the Sr title and came back as Directors in MS.
There's 3 ex googler in my team, and I think a fourth one is in the process of signing with us. Most engineers would rather work on something cool at MSFT than something boring at Google Those who don't care about their projects and just want to work for google regardless the scope of their work are probably not engineers you'd want either way. However though, the best at Google will most likely be able to find good projects at Google so we don't really stand a chance there
OP, that is not a realistic comparison. Some of the biggest differentiators between the two are TC (G wins), WLB (MS wins) and impact(G wins). If you make them the same,what are you comparing? Culture? Ethics?
Why would G win in impact? Isn't it a well known facts that many super smart engineers at Google work on very small and uninteresting problems?
It depends on your definition of impact. I shouldn't have generalized. Microsoft is completely focused on Enterprise , which is well... boring and doesn't really impact customers. Most Ms efforts in consumer products are massive failures. What you say is somehow true. However, I believe you have an identical chance of solving small and uninteresting problems in both.
If same comp and role - you should all leave. Microsoft is the easiest company to work for as an engineer in the vast majority of orgs. I work only 30 hrs a week. Hah
