I’ve been here for almost ten years. My OTE is $360K and my TC is around $425k. I’m kinda bored at this point, and keep hearing from recruiters at other companies that seem really interesting and exciting, but they’re all offering OTE between $225k-$300k. I’m yet to field an offer that will offer an OTE close to where I’m at today. Would you take a sales job at a new business if it meant an OTE drop of $50k-$100k? What would make it worth it to you?
What's ote
On Target Earnings. Salespeople are on commission, so OTE is your base salary plus the commissions you’ll make if you meet your sales quota target
Absolutely don’t do this. If your total comp is solid, ride it out. I’d only switch jobs if OTE was higher, the company was reputable, and the markets were doing well.
You can make $420k after 10 years at Dell? Was this your first job out of undergrad
No. I came to Dell in the EMC merger, but had 7 years outside experience prior to EMC. Also sales people in tech who kill it can bring in over $1m in a single year. I’ve not done that myself, but I’ve seen it.
Nah don't do this unless it's some sort of hot startup you really want to do and you get a really nice equity package
Most certainly not. Grass is not always greener on the other side. You might get stuck in a position where you’re now making less money and your company isn’t the interesting time you thought it was going to be. Don’t overthink it.
