Would you mind working at WLB company while doing investment?

Imagine the following four scenarios: A: working as Netflix Senior, Snap L4, FB E5 for 400k ~ 600k TC a year, with all investment in SPY with minimal/no investment activity (passive investment, mutual fund, wealth front, etc) B: working as Uber 5a, Linkedin Staff, Dropbox IC 3 for 300k~400k TC a year, with all investment allocated up to 10 stock picks with small effort of tracking and trading. C: working for Google/Microsoft/Intuit/etc, for some kind of TC a year, with active trading in investment activity on stocks (e.g. more than 20 stock picks) D: no full-time tech work, and active trading in all of stocks/options/futures, and even do day trading if necessary Edit: Without knowing each of your individual situation, I assume with net worth growing, there is more motivation to move the load from work, to family-focused activity and investment activity. Please feel free to leave comment if you have opposite opinion, or different opinions.

I am between Group C and D. Barely working at FB to get Meets All and pulling 600k. Gotten below expectation once as well. Just don't care.

How much of 600 is from trading?

VMware gMlg77 Nov 5, 2020

all these trading posts means we are nearing a top lmao btw i’ve been doing option c, and it’s not fulfilling.

Google nicebutter OP Nov 5, 2020

Not fulfilling at work, or due to investment performance?

VMware gMlg77 Nov 5, 2020

active trading requires a lot of effort to do correctly, and it is mentally taxing to stare at charts for hours at a time.

I traded options and have lost half year’s salary

Citadel C++23 Nov 6, 2020

Never give up! You will get better with more experience. Trade the remaining half year salary.

Google pytsgs Nov 6, 2020

Yes, and once you lose the remaining half of salary, get a loan and trade that as well! You will get better, don’t worry!

I worked at Group A but invest in FAMG stocks, plus some China tech giant like BABA and tencent. Doing this for years and feel really comfortable

Snap peppytalk Nov 6, 2020

Option C if you are still testing the waters. D if you are confident in your ability. A and B are just all talk no action. You will regret making this choice because you will miss on pursuing what you are passionate about.
