Would you support fully resetting adult life every 10 years?

Consider this hypothetical: After you reach adulthood and finish college, your life fully resets every 10 years. You lose all the money in your bank account, your current career progress, your current friend groups and communities, and basically "restart" life in a totally different part of the world. The idea is that if you screw up one 10-year segment, you get a fresh start in the next decade. On the flip side, if you find wild success in one 10-year segment, it's also on you to replicate that success in the future. Most successful careers are built in 10 years or less. SWEs get to staff IC/engineering leadership by year 6-7; analysts in MBB/IB reach partner by year 8-9; associates in hedge funds, law firms, or the private markets get there even sooner; singers/actors/entertainers have even less time, probably <5 years, to be successful

This sounds like the plot of a weird romance anime.

Naturally gifted people in their professions get to the top in 7 yrs, most take 15 - 20 yrs and thats IF other life factors cooperate, like physical health, mental health, etc.

I don't agree with your timelines. Are you saying SWEs stagnate after years 6-7? All the people I know in high positions like Distinguished Engineer and EVP just never stopped growing. Maybe mediocre people get to Staff and then plateau; great people are just getting started at 6-7 yoe. A typical career lasts 40 years.

does that mean I get to live forever and there’s no semi-apocalypse and earth doesn’t die? then yes!

Honestly it won’t change the status quo for those who become successful on their own. Yes, luck has a huge role but ultimately your skills stay with you. In this scenario what you’ve learnt stays with you. This is akin to somebody who lost their short term memory and hardly a new concept. Now reset all knowledge and skills then it’ll become survival of the fittest with the DNA you’re born with (aka the animal kingdom). Even if some people develop a new language it’ll be reset anyway. Not enough time for society to become a society. Just indiscriminate killings and lots of 10 year olds wondering around the derelict concrete jungles staring into oblivion.

Absolutely awful. Life becomes about grinding from 0 to something endlessly, with barely any time to enjoy the fruits of your labor. Having the option to do this if you totally mess up your life and end up dead or in prison or homeless is fine, but making this the norm sounds like a form of hell.

Common sentiment among low achievers. They couldn't succeed in the current system therefore the system is irredeemably flawed and must be "reset".
