Let’s say your company is giving you an opportunity to start up an engineering center, but the catch is that it’s in an area not known for tech, like Miami or Nashville. You’d be the first engineer there and you’d be responsible for building out a team. You’d also keep your current compensation for two years. Would this be a good move for a relatively young engineer with no family? Or would the move to a non-tech area be a bad move in terms of career? Would you do it for two years and then leave when it’s time to adjust your compensation lower?

Where are you going to find your engineers?

Na. I think you missed it. The OPs job at the new place is to build a team. They will fail if there are no good engineers to be had. There is a reason no great tech companies came out of Arkansas.
