How is the wlb and pay for rockstar games esp coming from vmware?
You do realize there are ~20 different studios named "Rockstar Games", right?
Nyc
I don't know anyone from there. In general the studio in the areas without much competition are pretty bad. In LA you can resign if you don't like your job and have a new job with a similar commute the next day. For example, Riot, SMS and Naughty Dog used to be across the street from each other. In NYC your new job is a relocation away and/or going out of the games industry.
Rockstar used to have pretty terrible WLB, but ever since 2018 they changed their ways significantly. They have really put an effort into employee well being. NYC is also generally known as one of the less crunch heavy studios for R*, since it’s where they are headquartered.
Awesome!!
While that is the case, I am not sure what your TC expectations are. They aren’t known for paying particularly well
Depending on what role you're in, it's still really, really bad. They've definitely tried to make improvements - and in a lot of ways have! - but it's still hit and miss depending on the team (and ultimately people*) you have to interface with
Expect to crunch the closer you get to release.
Enough of GTA5. It’s has been 10 years on 3 generations of consoles.
We literally shipped rdr2 just shy of 3 years ago. Relax, we're working on 6.
Oh snap tell us more!
GTA GTA (greater Toronto area) please
Based and Canadian pilled
I work at the New England studio and it's totally fine. Literally 40 nothing more unless you fuck something up and need to fix it asap for some reason. We'll see how things go in a couple years when we're closer to release.
Things would be a lot better /quicker if you wouldn’t rely on terribly slow development practices just because you feel it’s worked out for others. Fake Agile doesn’t help either. Waiting on approvals shouldn‘t be a significant part of your job. Split the studios again, and partition the projects into different side projects. At the moment, the current pipeline is an absolute mess, and this time around there‘s no crunch card to help you out of that mess anymore.
Having each studio work on projects individually is what lead to horrible crunch in the first place. Plus with how ambitious our titles are now we need the manpower devoted to one project to keep that level of quality. This projects going at a steady pace despite covid fucking with us. We're also learning a new console and how to develop for that what we can/can't do.
Old rockstar was EPIC crunch coming up to big releases! it doesn't feel that way since RDR2 and as a whole it def seems like they are actively working to improve it. That said, there will always be times when you need to get shit done which requires a time sacrifice, for me that extra effort has always been made up with the bonus’.
Do you mind telling which location you’re in? Seems like it’s studio dependent
NYC
Wlb level: max payne
GTA5 for PS5 please!
Why? Play on PC
Don’t have time to deal with the PC master race. Just wanna play some games without tuning 1000 things
