Had a very weird scenario, I got a call from the recruiter with a verbal offer, which was (Hybrid position - need to move to San Mateo - currently living in Chicago) level: Sr. Software Engineer Base Salary: $175,000.00 Bonus: $17,000.00 (10%) Equity: $200k (vested over 4 years) Sign-On Bonus: Was not specified in the first call I am currently located in Chicago so I didn't give any confirmation to this offer and said I need to check the differences in expense. Then after two days, I responded with an email asking for a base up to 190k and RSU 300k, to this email recruiter, responded with a lower offer than verbal and mentioned this is the best that they can offer not sure what happened. So this is what I got in the email (so it's written as of now) Base Salary: $170,000.00 Bonus: $17,000.00 (10%) Equity: $175k (vested over 4 years) Sign-On Bonus: 10k I have responded to this email asking for the reason for lowering the offer and also asked the recruiter to set up a call where we can discuss the expenses and ask about a higher base per my experience. I surely have an option to keep interviewing and look for another job but I do want to join Coupa, I am just not sure how this negotiation will end up. I know people have received RSU of 250-300k recently. Any suggestions would really help me here. Current TC: 150k YOE: 8 #coupa #bayarea
A definite average-below average offer for your experience in Bay Area. Just reject and keep looking. The lower offer in written form from verbal offer is weird and not worth it
Yeah, due to personal reasons I am trying to move to the bay area for that definitely this is a low offer but I was hoping that I would consider this offer to move to the bay area then maybe look for another in a year. but yeah I need to rethink that.
Okay! Good luck but the offer or the location(if you have not visited or lived before) are trash.
Low ball offer
Shit offer.

That's an ass terrible offer. Reject it. You deserve better. I hadn't even heard of this company before - not sure why you're so keen on joining them. If you really like the space, then I would recommend other Fintech shops (like Taulia, for instance). If you're not desperate for a job, your best tool for negotiation is to have multiple competing offers.
