Folks - we are trying to find part time nannies (half day, ~4-5 hours a day) in the Eastside and rates seem very high at $35. This seems to be a significant change from previous year. And then there is tax and payroll on top of that. Curious what folks are paying in the Seattle area per hour for nannies. Also, where have folks had the most luck in sourcing nannies? Websites such as Care.com, agencies, FB?
3000 per month
Depends on age and number of children also
Au pair
Really depends on what you mean as part time. You can find a high schooler to help when they get out of school. But if you mean part time as in, when you need it, expect it to be a premium. $35 is pretty cheap for a few hours a day. We hired an au pair which comes with its own set of pros and cons.
Thanks. We are looking for half-days, but asking rates seem about the same even for full time!
Yep, because you are looking for times that work for you, which will be at a premium. Best to rearrange your schedule so you can accommodate a high schooler. If you can do that, you will be paying $50-$100 an hour. Because they will not be able to hold down another part time job.
I was a nanny 5 years ago in NYC and the top rate for hourly part time was 20 per hour cash.
$35/hr is cheap. If you can’t afford it, one of you should stay at home
From the poll results it looks like about half the people are paying less than $25 :)
We’ve paid 30$ cash and 28$ plus employer charges. Also add in vacation and sick days.
Grandparents
From the poll results looks like there is a bimodal distribution - about half the folks are paying less than $25 and the others are paying 35+. Where do folks source their nannies? FB, agencies, websites?
Agencies are needlessly expensive in my opinion. I used care.com to find jobs and also agencies. From what I know the agencies charge way more the families. They basically just do some background checks and call the references. You can do it yourself. In fact you should and use your intuition to see if she is lying with the referrals. Many nannies lie.
One more thing as I feel I wanna help you. Dont pay 35, thats outrageous. 25 per hour is VERY generous. For part time you dont need to pay for vacation/holidays etc. just pay her cash. What also has value is schedule flexibility. You could find a college student and trust me being flexible with hours each semester was priceless for me. Lastly just being non dramatic down to earth parent. I would rather work for normal ppl for less money then lose my mind with demanding parents that insist on never ever using TV, never ever a candy, everything organic and stuff like that. good luck!
35 is cheap for a nanny. Expect to spend 40-50 for just standard nanny duties
