I’m interviewing for a senior manager role at UHG (first round). Any tips, suggestions, or recommendations? #healthcare #health #optum
Be english/speak with an accent.. They seem to favor people from the UK
Make sure you print out the job description and relate everything to that. You will need to convince the hiring manager. Honestly it’s super competitive and pay is peanuts.
So is it super competitive at all levels or managers are the worst off?
1. Have deluge of rich healthcare data which will give you enormous opportunity for meaningful and cool work 2. WLB extremely good . 3. Dynamic organization adept in adopting and exploring latest bioinformatics research in AI/ML 4. Although optum behaves like a tech company but pay is way substandard compared to tech companies. It's minuscule .
I'm in the Optum Tech org and as people have said the pay is not what you would expect for a tech company and raises are minuscule. Everything is going to depend on what org/team you are interviewing for.
Can anyone on this thread provide a referral for a couple of roles at Optum? Thanks
DM me if you are still looking for a referral
Do you know which Optum division? (Rx, Insight, Health, etc) and department? Also what’s your YOE? It’s such a massive org that it’s impossible to speak for all of it. Here’s been my experience in a nutshell: - Have had a few hiring managers ask me what my favorite “UHG values” are - Recruiters have persistently asked me for a range even though I tried to hold off giving numbers as much as possible - If you’re a director level and above, you might get RSUs - Sign-on bonuses are low compared to other companies. 10-25k unless you’re VP-level - In the consulting arm (Insight), all of the interviews I’ve had usually had 3 director levels interviews, followed by a VP interview - Insight folks tend to stay for a long time, so “fit for team” is weighted heavily
Thank you so much for this great insight! This is super helpful. The business segment in Optum is Rx. My YOE is 7 years. Job required 2. Anything else I should expect from the recruiter?
If the min required YOE is 2 and you’re at 7, you might have a shot at a grade level higher than what this position is for. (e.g., role is “Rx Integration Consultant” you might have a shot for the “Sr Consultant” role). Of course, different orgs have different practices, but I had a colleague negotiate a higher grade level based on qualifications. If you want to continue this conversation, feel free to DM! Can’t do this for everybody, but happy to look up the job req on the internal portal if that’ll give some context
