Work and interview process

To get a job in, or to succeed in the job? Also which companies? These aren’t defined roles universally. At amazon, AS is peak respect. At google, there is no AS.

At Amazon why AS is better than RS?

Google rroobish May 12, 2022

Amazon decided that, so you’d have to ask them, but the summary of the answer is that they need to clear both a research and a swe bar. Presumably the idea is that they can make research convert into actually useful end user outcomes.

In terms of broader skill sets, AS is harder, requires you to be good in research and decent SDE skills (SDE 1). Though AS that I worked with don't have the latter, but good in research. Can't talk much abt RS though, but I'm working with RS now and they are not as good as AS in software skills as expected, and often requires SDE, DE to help with data gathering, building packages etc. AS are more self sufficient.

Who got paid more and by how much percentage in avg?

Amazon VSXD38 May 12, 2022

Don't have information about the specifics, but I heard AS gets paid more than RS. It's harder to find an AS than a RS
