A new report from U-Haul found that migration to southern states continued throughout the pandemic, with Texas being the top destination. "Gone to Texas" was such a well-known phrase during early migrations to the state that people simply carved "GTT" on trees or fence posts when they headed west from the young United States. Now a highway version of "GTT" is underway, but it's headed from west to east: California and Illinois ranked as the states with the greatest one-way net loss of U-Haul trucks, and most of that traffic appears to have gone to Texas and Florida. So many Californians are leaving the once Golden State that the moving giant says it ran out of wheels for them to rent. California’s net loss was not as significant as it was in 2020, but here's the kicker: U-Haul says that was partially due to the fact that the company "simply ran out of inventory to meet customer demand for outbound equipment." https://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/californians-fleeing-texas-uhaul-trucks-report
Ca is a s hole. Highest taxes. Worst quality of life.
Please don't live here then. California is expensive because demand exceeds supply. Help us drop demand to reduce our CoL. Convince all your friends to move out of California too 😊
+1. States should have a referral bonus to pull more people out of California. Been waiting for housing to drop for 10 years now. We really need to reduce the population - especially the highly paid workers.
who the hell rent a uhaul to move across the country. jobless people? shouldn’t it be covered by relocation package? lol.
I live in Texas - it is not as great as it’s cracked up to be. We have an unreliable electric grid, our healthcare is terrible, our infrastructure is not good, we have a lot of problems. The electric grid alone lost me a week of work which resulted in lost wages.
Uhaul? Cheap, back breaking manual labor. Focus on leetcode and you won’t need uhaul in the first place.
And those liberals are going to vote for the same laws in Texas that made them leave California in the first place. Yee-haw.
Nice, as a Californian this is win-win! The problem with California right now is that demand greatly exceeds supply. Californians moving out will help us reduce CoL by reducing demand, and also help us win elections 😊
Meanwhile… software salaries in SF Bay Area continue to rise. https://www.levels.fyi/2021/?from=top_banner
It won’t go up forever but will likely be the last place to start to drop.
what if VR finally does get to a point where it's widely adopted though and people start plugging into the internet through VR we'd have a new app gold rush... all the new kind of apps for business (and consumers but i'd imagine business needs to adopt for it to work)
So when is Texas gonna turn blue?
I wouldn't move to Texas even if they paid me to
I had 25% equity in my Los Altos home. That was enough to buy a fully paid down house in Austin. Austin is great but Texas is not. Once we turn this state blue, We’ll be all set for you to join us comrade
And with that equity, you could have done much better. I’ll leave it at that
One of my friends moved to Austin for PayPal boom salary reduced by half . Dude was flying high when he accepted the offer .
Good, makes things cheaper for the rest of us here. California is expensive because demand exceeds supply. I hope more people move out 😊
it decreases your nw if you own land. can’t flex on Blind
I'm hoping to buy, so I hope the price of land drops.
