Hello all, I'm 35 and a healthcare provider ..practice being sold, going to make a career change. In NYC. I'm currently going through Harvard cs050 and halfway through it. I also previously completed about half of codesmiths csx course and JavaScript beginner/some if int onf code academy (my plan is to finish cs050 then go back to CSX) What route should I take towards a career change (I've taken calc2 /multivariate and some calc 3.. no discreet math). 1) codesmith + algoexpert + leetcode .. continue online classes in the side - pros: faster , less short term opportunity cost (preferred route if this can work) - cons: potentially harder to get a job, no degree 2) merrimack online mscs (supposedly 1 year and part time - apparently they use an 8 week semester . ?) Pros: fast, degree Con: very skeptical about this one - is the program worthwhile being so short ?!, Job prospects ? I'd think you should learn more than at bootcamp but maybe a bootcamp is more streamlined and job focused https://onlinedsa.merrimack.edu/lp-mscs-software-engineering/ 3) mscs for non CS (tufts, NYU, UT Austin?, Penn MCIT -> master's , other option .. Pros: degrees , depth and breadth of learning, networking and others Con: cost , opportunity cost, time... I'm 35 already Would love to hear any feedback, I'm not going to just self learn I'd do the bootcamp at minimum.. #engineering #software #swe #career #schoolspecialty #leetcode
Similar situation. Will probably keep self learning and make the move.
