Does anyone know what to expect in the first round of PM interview with Goldman Sachs? The interview is for 30 mins with the hiring manager.
GS product manager is not real product manager. They act as facilitator between traders and engineers. Trader want something β> PM listens to it and document it β> engineer complains about trader being too needy β> PM listens to the complaints and deliver the message to trader β> trader complain about engineers β> PM listens to it β¦ you get my point .
Any feedback on this interview? How tech focused are these roles anyway?
Following. What does a GS product manager actually do at GS?
There are PMs at GS it's just layered, bigger, and slower than other tech companies. This is also the case in many large finance companies. GS is much more innovative and faster moving, and leaner (so you work more) than at other competitors. But it generally keeps you growing and occupied. The first interview will be behavioral questions with the hiring manager. GS hires heavily based on culture fit. They look for smart people who they can fit into roles on their teams based on fit amongst the roles they might have. A strong PM skillset, knowledge of GS culture, and patience with the pace of financial tech versus other industries should be enough to get you through that interview. If all this sounds terrible and you don't want to deal with larger finance product, I'd reconsider. Hope this helps.
