So started with company A today, right after the orientation received an offer from company B with way better pay and job role. Im on F1-opt(1st year) so company A sent H1B petition to USCIS on friday and Company B will be sponsoring H1B next year. I personally know manager and my friend who reffered me to company A. I am in dilemma what to do now. if you were in this situation what have you done? 1) Quit company A..burn bridges..loose H1B chance this year..join company B 2) Reject company B and suffer inside that you rejected the wonderful offer. Chance to get H1B in lottery EDIT:Both companies are not FAANG
Stay with company A. Go through the lottery this year. You can leetcode and get a much better offer next year / later. If B is one of Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Facebook, Nvidia, Apple, equivalent league, then maybe you pick that. No need to regret. First job in the US is almost always suboptimal for all H1B people. Almost everyone goes through it one way or the other.
Nvidia is not in the same league as the other companies you listed. Plus pay is way less. Only good thing going for them is the stock price.
What are the best non CS / hardware first jobs / companies?
Start with A, if you get h1 then stick around till you finish formalities and then switch. If it’s not selected move to B ASAP.
B is not ready to hold offer until h1b result
Ask your manager and friend what to do. If they are ok leaving. Then leave. If they are not oK. Then stay and have some respect for the people that helped you.
Are you serious 😳
Yes. Why not?
I see the h1b lottery to be a big thing. I know 2 of my friends, one who returned to his hometown, and other was sent to UK because they didn't get picked in h1b lottery thrice. But its ur call. Decide between no of h1b chances that you have + probability of getting selected in lottery, and your second offer. Check companies reputation and if B will place u abroad if u won't get h1b in your two chances, then go for it. Else I would stick to A, and I can change companies anytime after h1b.
If the B company is like A or G or F or M then you should go to for B. Because if the H1B doesn’t work out they will find some way to keep you near and try again. They have the money and global location power to keep people.
