A catchy name
Workday is absolute ass and I hope they rot. Indifferent on the other two
What is lyfts competitive advantage
Being one of two players in an oligopoly?
Zenefits barely exists (was acquired by TriNet for very little), Rippling is a direct competitor but its current foothold is mostly just in tech while Gusto serves all kinds of SMBs, and Workday is only up-market of Gusto (mid-market and enterprise) so they aren’t really competitors yet. Rippling is the only meaningful competitor of the three at this point.
Why Rippling is mostly just in tech? I feel there shouldn’t be any difference between serving tech and non tech. What am I missing?
They started with a heavy focus on IT and hardware provisioning as a differentiator which mostly appealed to companies that expect to grow rapidly, like venture funded startups, and their marketing was focused in this direction as well (heavily focused on tech hubs). Gusto has more mom and pop desk-based businesses. No idea what Rippling’s distribution looks like across industries or geos at this point, to be fair.
Rippling is also small and MM HR products AFAIK. (So new tech). Their game seems to deepen that moat with diff products instead of going upmarket technically workday is the big leader in Enterprise across industries
Gusto has no competitive edge. Rippling and Deel are where its at nowadays
