Moving to Canada? Few questions

I’m currently on h1 visa. My wife is also working. We are thinking about moving to Canada for good. Both of us won’t make points cut off for express entry - currently cut off is around 535-540. Job offer in Canada gets you 200 points, which basically puts you well past the express entry cut-off. I have few questions - 1. If my wife or I move to Canada on internal transfer then are we eligible for 200 points bump & apply for express entry? Or is there a separate program for residency through work permits? 2. How long does it take to obtain work permit for Canada once you have a job offer? 3. If one of us moves and the other one doesn’t get internal transfer, in that case does the spouse get work permit right away? 4. Can my wife or I apply directly for jobs in Canada instead of going with internal transfer? Are there companies who interview candidates based in the US and bring them over to Canada? I am thinking about consulting companies such as Deloitte, Accenture, KPMG. 5. Can we add our parents under the same immigration application for permanent residency? 6. How long does it take to get the PR through work permit and job? 7. After getting the PR how long do we have to move our money from the US to Canada? Or can we leave it invested in the US stocks? 8. How can we move our pre-tax 401k and post tax IRAs over to Canada? 9. Can we rent a u-haul truck to move our stuff to Canada? Or hire a moving company to do that? Or do we need to sell or dump everything here? 10. We have a house here that we plan to rent but given Canada taxes capital gains at 50% I think it would make sense to sell it? Any suggestions? 11. How’s the education system in Canada? I see the community college tuition fee is very low & some of those schools are very good. 12. I’m thinking about starting a small business, probably a franchise in Canada. Is it a good idea? Has anyone done this? 13. I heard even though there’s universal healthcare but the system sucks due to long wait times for non life threatening procedures. People carry a supplemental private insurance. How does that work & how much does it cost for a family? 14. What’s the typical monthly household expenses for a family of 4 in the suburbs of Vancouver or Toronto? Household TC: 275k

You need a lawyer to answer your questions. Did you make any research ? 1- express entry or just work permit , after one year Apply for express entry with Canadian experience point 3- yes 4- yes but not easy, there are lots of skilled resources in Canada already, I wanted to hire AI engineer got 70 resumes. 5- no 7- you don’t have to move your money 9- depends on the size and value of your stuff 10- I would keep it in case I move back to US one day. 13- private insurance is only for dental and vision

14. What’s the typical monthly household expenses for a family of 4 in the suburbs of Vancouver or Toronto? Depends what is typical from your point of view, can vary from 7k to 50k ... How old are the kids? Day care is expensive. Rent for 3bedrooms can be around 3-4k. We are household of 3, in suburbs, with 1 y/o , with 1 car, no credits or loans. We spend around 8k per month.

Job offer from what I see only gets 50 points.

Same boat as you. Making the move in couple of months. Job offer gets you 50 points only. Yours will be closed work permit and spousal Work permit will be open work permit and she can work anywhere without LMIA. Transferring is relatively a better option. Not many companies hire from US and sponsor work permits because LMIA approval is a tedious process. Right now work permit is taking 4 months from US for approval. Work permits of dependents are approved together and not separately. Having work permit has nothing to do with PR timeline apart from extra 50 points that will help you to get an ITA faster. If you stay in Canada for an year or more then you get CEC points which makes your score above 500. With 8 and above in IELTS of primary applicant and 7 and above of spouse assuming you have work ex of 3 or more years and you are less than 30 you can already score 482 I think. Top it with 50 and you can get ITA in the next bi- monthly all program draw. Canada closed work permit is like US L1 visa. If you are making the move for good I would advise to make sure you have a clear PR pathway before the move. Closed work permit is very insecure.

If someone loses job on closed work permit will the employee needs to leave? If yes, how much time is given to find new job? Then new employer needs to file a seperate work permit?

Yes they need to leave. Not sure what will happen with spouse’s open work permit. In my opinion they need to leave as well or it will be a hack. Not sure about the time provided to leave. Should be there on IRCC website.
