I’m currently being recruited into Yahoo and seriously considering it. I would be leaving behind a lot, but hopefully in exchange of more (perceived) stability. Those of you who are already there, can you tell me more about it? What’s the culture like right now with yahoo being private after going through prior acquisitions and reorgs? What are they doing to truly morph into a “product” company? Is it realistically equipped to IPO again in the near future? #yahoo
I am not sure what team or org. If it's sports or finance or new up coming AI products & it will be cool to explore. But if it's ADs then reconsider it
How's wlb nowadays? From what I remember talking with former Yahoo folks there used to be lots of rest and vest folks
It ebbs and flows
What's comp like now that it's private and doesn't offer equity. What level are you targeting?
What are you leaving behind?
Amazing, brilliant people and great working relationships. The best tech stack I’ve ever worked with. And tons of perks.
Why are you assuming Yahoo has no Brilliant people? What kind of cool perks are available at meta?
Flagged for irrelevant content
What does yahoo even build? They have so many engineers
Which org are you joining? I am in the same situation. Is yahoo on resume a failure?
Org: Home Ecosystem
Nice!
It’s somewhat team and product specific but in general at Yahoo you’ll find mature systems and tech stacks and teams. If it’s not already in AWS or Google cloud it will be in process of migrating as we are getting rid of all on prem infrastructure. You probably won’t be doing cutting edge tech or building your own open source but it will be common modern tech that will be relevant outside Yahoo. You will find many smart and nice people. Currently in a decentralization cycle meaning there is no big central tech org pushing tools and process to all the products, rather each org makes their own decisions. More freedom to choose your tech, but more redundancy and having to go it on your own (eg set up your own ci/cd and monitoring)
Thank you for this detailed context to influence my decision!
OP did you join?
Did you join?
Probably would only work at Yahoo Finance
