Remember folks, all Israel wants is the hostages back
A recruiter called me today about a junior SWE position at Yelp (…I’m senior in my current role). She said that the junior interview would consist of a panel interview with data structure and algorithm questions (standard), but also system design questions. Is that not very advanced for a Junior SWE role? Or is it that a junior at Yelp is a senior elsewhere? #engineering #swe #interviews TC $160 CAD
why do you wanna join as a junior?
I don’t, but I talked to the recruiter to scope it out for a friend who will be a new grad. I don’t think they will have systems design knowledge though. I posted because I’m surprised at that and want to know if the recruiter was accidentally describing a senior role.
damn system design interviews for new grads sounds stupid
For junior roles the system design interview is more lenient, and focuses more into how you can collaborate with your interviewer and come up with a working solution rather than getting it right. They’re usually disguised as business requirements. Technical questions are still points based though, and even if one interviewer gives you a no hire it’s still up to the hiring manager to decide. Tbh I find it hard to recommend Yelp nowadays unless you’re after the somewhat laid back work culture, relatively better short term job stability and good WLB (worse wlb for teams that work close to sales, ads or marketing though). They removed RSU refreshers for IC2s and below 2 years ago, and IC3s starting this year unless you’ve been IC3 for a while. Execs are finding more ways to drive down comp for everyone.
Yelp tc? I wouldn’t take Jr role even if TC was above current TC
