I got an overwhelming amazing offer from Instacart. It's 50% more than what I make here at Amazon. However, I rejected it. Here's why. 1. Clawback clause. I don't think I can accept the risk of working for a company for few years and then something happens and I have to leave and I lose all the equity I worked hard for. I was jocking with my wife that I'm getting a huge offer from the efforts of former Instacart employees. 2. Blind feedback about the work culture. I'm very grateful to the community. I'm at Amazon and nobody asks me to work on weekends. 3. During team matching, teams I talked to told me they hire only senior engineers, which confirmed #2. They hire senior engineers not to grow but to stress them to deliver as much as possible. 4. Recruiter asked me whether I'm expecting a baby (i.e. will I use the paternity leave?). I couldn't believe myself when I heard that. I wanted to give back to blind community, so others are aware of what they sign up for. I'll not be sharing the offer details. Current TC: 310 YOE: 9 EDIT: 4. Recruiter actually tried to sell it as a benefit, though they started with asking it as a question. Are you expecting a baby soon or in the near future? because we have a great paternity benefit. But it seemed so suspicious to me because that was the only benefit they talked about. Edit 2: Somebody said they removed clawback. I'm so happy with this decision. The whole purpose of this post was to warn future candidate. But now, I think it is a regular company with its pros and cons, and not gambling with employees money anymore. It is so great to know that my post and each reply here had a little tiny effect on the decision. Please, keep pushing and don't be afraid to speak up. It is definitely worth it, even if you moved on, it helped existing and future employees.
Thanks for the post, I know which company to not even bother with, or just use for interview prep now 😜
what are the conditions of the clawback?
You’ve made a wise choice
Clawback is honestly going to scare away all their talent, just ridiculous
460k is too small for yoe 9. Counter them with 600k tc, then decide whether you want to join. Reason for 600k is that other companies can give yoe 9 an offer of l6 and 550k tc, so you need at least 600k to justify the risk
What was the offer?
#4 confirms that you’re making all of this up to delude yourself into wanting to continue working at Amazon. I’m so sorry.
I actually received 2 different offers that are not as lucrative as this one and I accepted one of them. My purpose of the post is to warn others.
Whatever doesn’t matter. Amazon is to Blind what Trump is to leftists. Anything or anyone associated with Amazon is automatically labeled in a negative light.

Indian men just want to date even in late 30's
Wow. It could be illegal to ask if you are expecting a baby !
Could it be that the recruiter was trying to pitch to say they have a generous parental leave program?
Yes, that's how the recruiter framed it. But it was really bad to ask someone about it before even sending an offer letter.
