Hey folks, I have a very secure job in Canada and I have an offer from SoFi. I was wondering if this is a bad time to change jobs. What are your thoughts on this? Current job: Government - Canada - TC 200k CAD + Gov pension (Higher tax rate than California) Offer: SoFi - SanFrancisco TC 250k
If you’re making $200k + federal government pension and federal government benefits I probably wouldn’t risk that to relocate to SF for $250k.
I wouldn’t even do it for $450 k🤣
200k CAD but for sure cost of living is way less here. Base salary is 150 CAD But I always loved to work in Tech industry and I am wondering if this will be my only chance to get a job in San Francisco . I am old :D 37 YO
Wtf. What role in the government is this? I thought they top out at 120k max
Base salary is 150K Canadian not USD
Your answer doesn't make sense Canadian govt SWEs TC max out around 120k CAD How are you making 200k CAD??? With 150k CAD base??? What's your role/title
This is the most stupidest decision ever. Getting offer like Sofi is not that big deal. Government job is !!
Hey be nice, this is a Canadian we’re talking to.
Even ignoring your question about SoFi , your current job is good enough plus you have to move to SF so factor in COL difference
What is your opinion about Q2 results and future of SoFi? Thnx
What I've been telling everyone is so far, no signs of layoffs, no sign there won't be layoffs. For reference, upstart (our biggest loan competitor) has no layoffs yet (loans is largest part of our revenue). We are still actively hiring but I feel like it may have slowed. If you are really unsure, you could wait for Q2 earnings on Tuesday
You’d have to have a lot of confidence in SoFi. Do you?
I see a lot of upside in for the stock but I am not sure if this is a great place to work
Search the Tech Lounge for SoFi posts and comments. WLB was a theme.
Create a poll. Answer is so obvious. Stay put.
Wow that TC in government?! Never ever change job
Your current job sounds really good. I wouldn't do it.
Your 200CAD probly beats the shit out of 250USD at Bay
You're probably right but another piece of info to add is that I am taxed at 53% marginal rate here
You know the math. Do accordingly. Unless you get much higher, don't risk it
Gosh, do not make the change
