Can somebody please explain why the YouTube comments were moved, in the Android app at least. Thank you for your time. #engineering #software #leetcode
Some metric probably showed people don’t read the comments on mobile, vs new videos. Or maybe they are optimizing for keeping you on the app, so using that space for related videos to keep you on as long as possible. Either way there are a lot of people who don’t read comments, since they basically went to hell on most videos since Google bought YouTube
Obviously metrics related / money related. You can make more money by giving more cta’s to videos than by having a comment section. More CTA’s = more videos = more ads. I don’t like the change at all but clearly user satisfaction comes at the expense of revenue
I would say ppl have muscle memories and they scroll straight to the comments whether they are interested or not. This causes the cache to load up even when ppl might not read it (muscle memory) so it's screwing their request traffic having to load comments that might not be even read as opposed to now -- when intent is expressed by clicking the button. --- where's my FAANG offer now ?
This is true. Comments section prevented people from viewing the recommendation section. Comments are the most entertaining but it brings no value to Google.
are you gunna stop using youtube? no? Then be happy the comments don't get moved again
I am altering the deal. Pray I don't alter it any further.
Its still there. You just have to expand it
Please make the back button android work the way I'd expect. Right now if I go into a comment thread I need to tap the back arrow in the app to go back to the list of comments. If I use androids back it goes all the way back to the video and I lose my place in the comments.
From time to time UX researchers would like to remind us that they do some work and their salaries are not going to waste. Btw. This has nothing to do with engineering or software. They probably moved the fragment tag a few lines above and added an alert
