I see alot of SWE and especially especially UX Designers on YouTube talk about how they got their first job after 3 - 6 months of Bootcamp. And the few I've seen are usually at FAANG companies I'm confused, how?? Is it that easy for folks in the US & Canada?? Am I a potato?? Am I doing some wrong? Is it because of my location?? I haven't been able to land one full time remote job since 2020 and here I see Designers on TY, talk about landing jobs 3 months after Bootcamp. Wow! #uxdesigner #recruiting #faang #remotecompanies #youtube
As someone else said survivorship bias. Also some people are predisposed to this sort of thing have backgrounds that line up and just work really hard. I’ve seen some great bootcamp grads. Like really good but on average they are worse.
Boot camps use to have a high hire rate. These YT are probably those who got in when tech was still hot. Plus boot camps tend to recruit people who don't really need to attend in the first place. I have plenty of friends who have degrees in CS and still boot camp. The leftover people will be last or rejected, but the struggle to place students into jobs has boot camps removing their placement rates. That's why they have the pay after you get placed model. Also, you're listening to YT who probably want to do YT instead of engineering anymore.
Wow which bootcamp does pay after you get placed??
Like all the ones in the Bay Area? I think Galvanize, App academy, dev mountain. But it'll probably be even tougher now with the recent decline in Tech. So good luck
As others said before + People who know how to market themselves and are vocally doing so are more likely to land jobs quicker.
They are selling shovels
FAANG interviews are hackable through these courses these days and most people can grind it out to get an entry level in 3 to 6 months some may take a bit longer. People only tell You their highlights not their lowlights so don't believe all that you see. Learn at your pace and hurry up
...and hurry up
Lol. Hurry up to have a sense of self imposed urgency
Here’s my wife’s perspective, Wife was working in India for a well-established American firm, an industry leader before she moved to Canada with me. She certainly thinks the bar is much higher here for a similar job also she says the SWEs are more well-rounded here relatively. She was the top performer in her team, got promoted twice in 2 years she was there, here she says she’s just average. I’m a HWE, never worked or studied in India so I personally don’t have an opinion.
