Your take on the streaming war?

With Netflix stock drop, I was wondering the future of streaming companies. Netflix - Has the first movement advantage and market reach. But it has some tough questions to answer. They didn't own content when they first started. So they have to pay money to the rights owners to stream them. They have to keep investing money to churn original content. How much money should they burn each year doing this? Is it sustainable? Disney - Has an advantage that they already own a lot of content which can go straight into it. Prime and Apple - Both didn't own as much content to begin with. But both make a lot of money from other businesses and burn them here for new content. I do feel Netflix the brand has become household name and they will stay resilient. What are your thoughts on it? Is the fight between Spotify, Prime Music and iMusic the same? Prime literally offered me 15£ for just hearing a song from Prime music. Not sure if Spotify such onslaught.

Disney Streaming Services GranRaton May 1, 2022

Disney Streaming Services is not united enough internally (yet) to contend with Netflix. It’s still Disney+ vs Hulu vs Star+/hotstar vs Espn+

I think streaming industry has capped out and now it's the next cable equivalent where costs are extremely high.

Agree. I remember seeing a meme about it a few years back - Someone has to reinvent cable TV service so that we can watch all streaming services. For me, the most cost effective approach is to spend one month on each streaming service, watch the content you like and discontinue membership.

Maybe Apple buy Netflix?

Music and video streaming are very different businesses despite people/investors often grouping them. In terms of competition in music streaming, Spotify is way ahead of Apple Music, Prime Music, etc in MAUs and it’s not even close. Podcasts have been an accelerant on Spotifys lead as well.
