Yay or nay? Why? #design #productdesign #designleadership
Not a fan. Going through the rigors of some kind of design school matters to me; that said, plenty of design leaders studied it and still suck.
Nay. Departments heads who do the admin is fine.
A lot of designers in this industry didn’t study design either and from the looks of it those are the people who end up being design leaders.
Mixed. If you can get a manager/leader who KNOWS they aren’t a designer and is willing to listen, it could work. You present the ideas and why they’re important and they deal with c-suite to get them implemented.
Design leaders who didn’t study design, how is that possible??? - me, an intern/student
This can happen if the manager knows the business inside and out. This is an area some designers aren’t as strong in and there has to be able between making things aesthetically pleasing AND making the company money
Nay
Couldn’t care less.
dont matter
They ruin the culture tbh and promote pixel pushing. I'd rather prefer HCI or Human Factors or CogPsy or System Design studied leader than a graphic design or other grad.
