I am out of amazon, plan to not work for a few years and relocate to India (as an Indian citizen). I still feel amazon stocks are going to go up and I want to keep my money invested. I only plan to transfer $5000 to my Indian bank sccount on a monthly basis. Do I have to pay any taxes on thr withdrawals?
You’d still be on the hook for filing taxes in the US.
How do I file taxes in US, I am an Indian citizen and may not have any US connection after relocating to India.
Even if you're not a US citizen if the stock was granted in the US then it has a US cost basis, so will incur US capital gains tax when sold. MS will send you a 1099 that you'll file with. If you don't have other US taxable income, you'll probably be in the lowest capital gains bracket, but I'm not an expert on international taxes, so don't quote me on that. (This is not legal or financial advice)
Once you complete the relocation there is a foreign earned income tax exclusion for $120k of income based on bona fide foreign residence test. OP will get a 1099, but that doesn't mean owe anything. You will fill out form (see IRS link below). Best to work with an accountant https://www.irs.gov/individuals/international-taxpayers/foreign-earned-income-exclusion-bona-fide-residence-test
You have to pay taxes on the capital gains
You mean, when filing taxes in India? Long term capital gains taxes of 10-20%
Yes.
