Second Edit: l am realizing after arguing with some people here that an important context is that I am an intern. Making a list like this makes more sense for intern than for a senior position, which is what most of you are. Most of the reasons people suggest choosing places to work at don't necessarily apply that much and lot of interns, based on my experience, just end up choosing based on pay, name or some priorities like the ones I listed. For example, most intern offers are given before I know the team and the type of work I will be doing. I have barely any experience with any tech stack so doesn't matter that much. So I am not left with a lot to choose from (hence making arbitrary rankings like those). I think making a ranking like this makes sense for an internship, but probably not for a senior position and I agree. I guess that makes sense since most people on blind are senior and have many different parameters to choose compare companies Edit: People saying tier lists are cringe and stupid and typical intern posts. I understand no place is objectively better than another. There are lot of factors, but it is still helpful to do these comparisons to get an idea. I gave a list of priority that I am ranking based on so that these doesn't seem arbitrary. And also, why is a tier list more cringe than blind ratings or glassdoors rating. Everyone knows not all the companies are the same, no need to pretend they are. Some places, based on some priorities are likely better than others (again circumstances might differ, but on average better) and that is what I am trying to see. Original Post: I am recruiting for my last internship and I am thinking of what companies I should target. Here is the list I made. Any suggestions? Ranked in terms of pay, wlb, growth and prestige (in that order). Tier 1: Jane Street, HRT, Jump Trading Tier 2: Citadel / Citadel Securities, Five Rings Tier 3: Facebook, Stripe, Databricks, DE Shaw, Nuro, Figma, Airtable, Brex, Netflix, Coinbase, Optiver Tier 4: Google, Airbnb, LinkedIn, Snap, Roblox, Lyft, Plaid, Pinterest, Doordash, Twitter, Apple, Bytedance, Scale AI, Cruise Tier 5: Square, Mongo, Robinhood, IMC, Akuna, Two Sigma, Nvidia, Uber, Chime, Palantir, Dropbox Tier 6: Microsoft, Amazon, Bloomberg, Salesforce, Slack, Twilio, Reddit, Github, Datadog, Oracle I currently have an internship at a company here. if I can get a return offer, wondering which companies are strictly an upgrade and not just a lateral move so I know which companies to recruit for. Have a busy semester coming so only wanna recruit for what is worth it, which is why I am trying to see if I have the right idea.
Citadel is shit. Horrible wlb, tech is not a first class citizen. FB/Google/well-performing unicorns (Airbnb, stripe) tier 2. Tier 3 should be msft/LinkedIn/Uber/lyft
Thank you for being one of the few people who gave meaningful advice.
What's your tier1 and tier 0?
Your list is bad and you should feel bad
Can you elaborate? I am not trying to assert my opinion. The point of my post is that this is my perception and I don't want to be applying based on false perception. If you disagree, can you let me know where and why?
typical intern cringe post lmao
Is it because it is a teir list? Why is a tier list more cringe than blind ratings or glassdoor ratings. Not all companies are same, and no need to pretend they are. If you have fully read my post, I have a lot of text to explain the context, what I am seeking from list and that I am posting to looking on advice on how to correct my perception. I have priorities and I am wondering which places are likely best fit for me, based on these priorities.
No way Google is tier 4. Pure BS from OP
Not everyone thinks google is the best purely based on name. They pay lower, and growth is very slow. Google got nothing on any of the places I ranked above.
Says the guy with "New" in front of his name.
shit list go back to school instead
My suggestion: LC
Reported you for being stupid
I needed a good laugh. Thanks🤣
very bad tier list 🤦🏻
Google is not tier 4 😂
Low pay?
Not really they can definitely pay as much as facebook
