Sharing my story from a couple months ago after seeing the numerous other stories on their ridiculous hiring practices. I was previously a PM intern at Veeva and also had numerous other PM internships at some well known companies. When I was at Veeva I did quite well and got an outstanding perf review and even a return offer for another internship term. Decided to apply there after grad for full time. I had two teams very interested and passed all rounds of interviews. Spent total of 2 weeks straight working on their take home case studies (i had to do 2, 1 for each team) which consisted of lengthy presentation decks with UI mockups and data modelling. Received verbal offers from both teams and was told they needed final CEO approval. I thought it was strange given how large the company is. Apparently all product and eng applications are approved by the CEO. Had my offers rescinded by the CEO because I was a new grad and tried to push me to do their year long consulting program that paid 65k with client site travel every few weeks and no guaranteed PM placement. Mind you, I was applying for an associate PM position, not something senior and the teams had no issue with my experience given my combined ~2 year PM experience from internships. What’s worse is the CEO told the hiring manager who delivered the bad news that he would offer a chance to speak with him, but totally ghosted my reach out email and ghosted the intro email that the hiring manager sent to connect us. Was absolutely crushed, what a waste of time. several weeks of interviews and prep. Felt like i shoulda got paid for just going through this lol Especially given the case study was directly additive to their products. During this whole process, HR was no where in sight, everything from interview to comp discussion was with the hiring manager. #tech #pm #veeva #screwed
I did a take home for Veeva a few years and then got ghosted. This was for Canada so it seems like their takehomes aren’t exclusive to the US
East bay, east bay. There are reasons why ;) When person founds the company with HQ in East Bay, it tells a lot
lol what is the easy bay stereotype?
It has to do with archetypes of people you can attract while opening company in East Bay, distance to Sand Hill Rd and all the consequences of these 2 facts. That said even if founders live in East Bay, opening tech company there would be disastrous.
They were using you for the free work you did. I may be wrong but when you said "verbal offer" that hit me and made me think who does a verbal offer these days. I am sorry this happened to you but nevertheless, a lesson learnt. Good luck for future. Reach out anytime. I am a People Manager at a Recruitment division.
I once had an interview where they wanted me to do a strategy presentation for their business. This was before any interviews. I noped the fuck out of there.
Sorry this happened to you. Unfortunately it looks like they were simply using you for free work. I try to be very skeptical of any assignment. Generally I don’t do take home and if there’s a significant amount of time that needs to be invested, I’ve been offer compensation at an hourly rate. The most I’ll agree to is a whiteboard session during interviews. Anything else is just too much of a risk
ya i removed access to all presentations i provided. Didn’t think they would do a past intern dirty like this.
