Jure Leskovek's work on representation learning for graphs (funded by CZ Biohub) has been fairly high impact in the ML / AI field. Haven't met anyone else associated with them though. I assume it's mostly researchers with hard sciences backgrounds. Seems like they are doing real stuff though.

It's a tax shelter

Google cccx1 Aug 17, 2020

I have never understood how paying for charity to reduce taxes could make any sense. I dont think its possible to get more in-hand cash with that approach. Can you explain how it can be done?

Google sisyphus01 Aug 17, 2020

You shelter as much of your assets and opex in the foundation as possible. Buying a new car? Donate $100k to the foundation, get the tax write off, and then buy a Tesla in the foundation’s name. Pay yourself a salary from the foundation. Buy real estate via the foundation. It’s a big loophole.
