Spouse Roku offer
Hello My spouse just received a offer from Roku for a senior software eng position. She is also considering an offer from apple. Roku tc: 330 base 60 stock no sign on Apple TC 191 base 60 stock 75 sign on Mostly Final offers. Apple is more platform work mostly in the GPU firmware domain. Roku mostly networking software. Yoe 9+ She is currently confused wrt future of Roku vs during cutting edge GPU sw work at apple. Appreciate if Roku folks chime in to discuss the culture and TC improvement scope in future. Recruiter said Roku doesn't do yearly increase in TC. Apple folks please share how is the GPU sw team refreshers in future. Appreciate all ur feedback.#offer #roku #apple #tc
The TC delta is way too much to pick Apple IMHO, no matter what the differences in work are.
330k base? You kidding?
Base means everything- no bonus, espp, 401k. Benefits at Roku could be better. Think long and hard. Also- how many women did your wife meet? How many on her potential team? Roku is a largely male population especially in eng.

Thanks for your comments. When u said no raise. Does it mean nothing at all after 1st year or subsequent years? Recruiter said Roku reviews the salary every 6 month. Is it a formal review? How often have you seen ur salary getting increased. Appreciate any insight.
Recruiter will sell you bullshit. There is practically no raise for many years.
Also, no bonus/refresher at Roku. Take that into account as well.
Apple has good refresher every year
The delta in the package is huge!! If she is in firmware and apple is not able to match it, i’ll be surprised if any other company can. Just go for roku!

IMO it depends on what she wants out of her career. It seems like earlier you mentioned that Roku isn’t offering the exact experience that she’s after. In four years at Roku, will she feel out of touch with the field she specializes in or will she feel like she broadened her skillset? Other things to consider, does this require a move for either job and how does that impact your TC if you have to pay more or less for the area in which you live?

In my opinion a higher base is always more important as your bonus, next years performance and promotional salary is always tied to your current base. So I would say Roku is better from pure compensation point of view.
Thanks for your comment. Yeah Roku comp is currently higher and I agree wrt comp that Roku is beating apple. She is concerned about work, she is mostly a low level firmware/driver engineer, apples work is in that space. Roku seems has less low level sw work in the team under question as Roku mostly gets its components from vendors. Hence the confusion.
I agree with Arcteryx not only on comp but likely better future opportunity. The larger a flywheel is, the longer it takes to rotate.
