Be prepared. Also, we hire and fire, that will be the strategy this year. Managers and senior managers will be the least wanted in market in the near future. big techs: all report to directors small techs: all report to VPs
People management is the most commoditized and administrative skillset, therefore should not be highly paid. Managers should make less than IC at the same level. E7 manager should be paid 70% of what E7 IC makes. And manager-to-IC ratio should be less than 10%
Better yet, reorg all managers to HR while adults build the real product.
Seriously, manager is the biggest bubble in tech. “I managed a team of 100 engineers” means I hired 80 useless headcount and bloated the org. “I led a team of IC to deliver xxx features” means the IC built the feature, I tracked their progress and prepared pip list.
Tons of middle managers are useless at Meta, especially for bottom up culture it’s ICs doing all the work.
I have E6 swe interview next week. Will I be fired if I happen to get an offer?
Soon or later, definitely you will be fired
Fake managers are king
Facebook never fire L7 managers
Is this for real? Why let go of seasoned, experienced engineers Granted they are very expensive, but Meta has never claimed to be a low cost leader Plus they are flush with cash
Don't threaten me with a good time
Hire and fire only applies to E7 or across all levels?
E7 including managers?
