What skills should I be working on?

I hold a PhD in atmospheric science and currently work at a military laboratory with an active security clearance. I am able to program in Fortran, Python, MATLAB, bash, ksh, and a few other languages. A toxic work environment, always being overworked, and my GS13-equivalent pay is making me more open to working somewhere else. Are there any languages or skills that would make me more marketable to companies up the road in Silicon Valley?

Well what are you looking for in your next job? I would personally look for the jobs that you want and compile a list of items that you need to work on based on the requirements listed in those jobs.

Then spin up a small project that covers those requirements, so you can have some hands on experience.

Yeah look at job descriptions and compile a list of skills that are being asked. Start working on the most commonly asked for skills.
