We are both on our first H1B visas. My wife works as a contractor in Wisconsin, and I work in the NYC area. We both want to live and work here around NYC. She is a technical business Analyst and is training herself to be a data engineer for more career prospects. It has been more than 6 months that she hasn't gotten a decent call for interviewing, and is getting frustrated. Should we go for the option where she quits the job and moves here? In this case, what are our options. She wants to work, and doesnt want to simply be at home. I am guessing she would need to change her visa status. If she finds a job, will she require a new H1B filed? Or a transfer? Any other options like education? She already has a masters in MIS. I really think she can focus better when we live together. Thank you for any advise. My current tc: 122k #h1b #life
Tell her to get a remote job initially. Then when in NY she can interview locally.
Can one work remote on h1b?
Yes
She needs a job to retain her visa?
Yes. In my knowledge, she would have to be on a dependent visa (cannot work when primary is on h1b) if she isn't working.
If on dependent visa she cannot work. You need to decide if that’s what she wants to do
