Real talk: in what way private schools are better than public in nyc?
I got laid off from Zoom, where i made a decent 310k per year. This was during the february. I managed to get another offer of just 180k from a low end but decent public company in foster city. I am a staff engineer with people reporting to me. They offer no bonus and no stocks, poor health care options but had to take it due to visa reasons. I recently turned down a fintech startup offer of - principal engineer - 215k $ - In bay area - 175k $ stocks over 4 years - stocks they say equate to 1 million. I have another offer from a east coast private fintech company for - 310k per year, Base and Bonus - no stocks - offers relocation I have - 12 years experience - Distributed systems, backend, aws - very ambitious, interested - Hate oncalls but at current company does have it. Did i make a mistake to turn down the 1st company offer ? Does the east coast company offer look good ? Should i relocate ? I still want to get an offer from a remote company in bay, with decent WLB and 250k $ base, 500k$ stocks and be here. Which company should i apply and crack ?
make it a poll.
seems i cant edit now sorry
The TC for Hotwire doesn't look right
please ignore, i have shared current details in the post
I would focus on real money. Too many startups are over ambitious and you’d burn out quick. The pvt fintech company’s offer seems decent
Need to fix the TC in the poll my man
cant edit as of now bro, sorey
Which fintech from the east coast are you referring to ?
bloom
If you are on a visa don’t meddle with startups Simple.
Big tech job security is an illusion. You need to vet financial viability of the startup before accepting the offer. The same applies in big companies. If you are working on holo lens your probability of getting fired is equally high. Use your judgement in terms of how much value you bring to the company.
Can you elaborate on reasons why?
So you don’t like the other offer because you don’t want to move? That sounds like a good offer to me (but I prefer east coast to west coast anyway)
Avoid startups if you are on visa! Too much chaos and unpredictability!
What is the unpredictability here? Is this regarding PERM process too?
Yes, yes.
Where are you located
bay area
