Reached out by recruiter on LinkedIn. Round 1 - DSA(1 hr) 2 medium questions were asked, one was from DP and second one was from Graph which required BFS traversal. Focus was to understand the thought process(for this be loud, whatever comes in your mind) and accuracy. Interviewer was also helpful and interested. I was able to solve both questions in 50 minutes on Google Docs. Recruiter informed me in couple of hours that I've cleared. [Received strong hire for this round] Round 2 - Technical(1 hr) Started with discussion on current project and high level design for the same. Deep dive into all the system and tech stack of project with pros and cons. Some discussion were around distributed cache and how to ensure consistency. Other discussion was on concurrency, callbacks in Java with real life scenarios. So overall project deep dive with HLD, tech stack and Java. Recruiter informed me in 30 mints after the interview that I've cleared. [Strong hire] Round 3 - LLD(2 hrs) I was given Stock Brokering system to design and to implement REST API to cater 2 high level requirements. It should be testable using postman. It involved using threads, concurrency and callbacks also in Java. I was not expecting to implement REST api, and Spring was not setup in my local. I told the interviewer that I'll start with use case designn, creating classes, defining relationship, using design patterns and SOLID principles. And later I will write REST controller to expose the endpoints. At end of 1:45 hrs, code was not in running status. I zipped the code and sent to interviewer. Recruiter informed me after 2 days that it was mixed feedback. [Received mixed feedback for this round] Round 4 - Fitment round with VP(1 hr) I was expecting that it will be mostly behavioural round with introduction question. Interviewer informed me that he want to test the REST api design skills. Design api for uploading video, search for video, putting comment for video and retriving comment for video for YouTube. Designed in 10 minutes and interviewer was happy. Second question was to design HLD for YouTube and REST MVC architecture for YouTube. Designed in another 15 minutes and then discuss about all the flow and functional requirements. Interviewer was happy. [Strong hire for this round] HR informed me on same day that I have cleared all rounds and they want to offer SDE2 role. Actually this position was for SDE3, they downlevel to SDE2 becuase of two reasons. 1. Major reason was, I was holding 5 years of experience in service based company out of total 6 years of experience. Started with Infosys, Accenture, Deloitte, and currently in Morgan Stanley. 2. Mixed feedback of LLD round. Recruiter also informed me that VP said that I performed really well and he wants me to join his team. Recruiter ensures that downlevel to SDE2 will not affect salary, they will match the start band of SDE3 or max band of SDE2. Also, she confirmed that I will be promoted to SDE3 in a few months if I performed really well. I'm thinking that it's fine, anyway I'll get a promotion in less than a year, and I'll get some room to learn things also initially with less responsibility. Later with promotion also I will get a good jump. And they will try to match on salary part.
