Stripe has laid off some of the employees that support TaxJar, a tax compliance startup that it acquired last year, TechCrunch has learned from multiple sources and firsthand documentation. The layoffs – conducted over the last month – are related to Stripe’s decision to wind down TaxJar-focused go-to-market efforts in late July. Sources estimate the number of employees impacted by the workforce reduction is between 45 to 55 folks, at least a portion of whom were invited to take 30 days to apply to internal jobs at Stripe. https://techcrunch.com/2022/08/19/stripe-layoffs-taxjar-tech/ #layoff #acquisition #ma #fintech
Makes sense. Taxjar likely had a way lower hiring bar, giving incompetent talent a golden ticket into an aggressively growing startup infamous for high expectations/poor wlb
There is layoff happening under radar at stripe for all orgs. Each org is dealing with it separately and not at same time so there isn’t much noise but the layoffs have been happening. All those threads warning of layoff in Aug and sept are 100% accurate. There will be few loyal stripes who will try hard to refute but taxjar thing has been known for sometime now!
Can confirm the above statement
There are has been some performance related cuts after mid year reviews but no layoffs. 40 people from a company that was acquired in a 9000 people company is not even worth any news. And good number of them found other internal jobs.
