So Zillow conducts Kaggle competition to get best methods/models and then hires best data scientists to create this house pricing product and fails miserably. Is this a data science failure? Management failure to understand you can’t predict everything with historical data? #datascience #data #dataanalytics #datascience
Data science is all about predictions. It is as good as betting!
Not really lol
Decisions were made way above decision science org
Trying to understand and learn how this could have been avoided? Stronger mid level management?
I think data science leaders need to be heard more and they need stronger voice
Some upper management people wants just point forecast and don't wanna hear anything about prediction interval. I think that could have been the case too.
I bet data scientists on the team were warning for last six months… and there was some upper management guy who was responsible for this mess..
This seems about right. It’s always some shit stain with an mba that thinks they know something
that's exactly right.. any prediction comes with error and leadership just pretend it's nonexistent
