Asking for a friend. Aurora: Senior, TC ~380, good team, I liked the staff engineer on the team, clear-ish goals, manager is a principal from Google also great. Public company, stock upside. Zoox: Just below Senior (high L4), no official numbers but expected to match or beat Aurora. Fully owned by Amazon, no longer in survival mode. The new team, part of an existing org, manager just joined, and the skip manager has been there for 6 years though. Primary goals of the team to scale simulations, using more of AWS. Both positions are quite good and match my skills but I'm not too sure about company culture, decision making, WLB and the pace of work. I would like to hear from folks who work at either of these companies. #aurora #zoox# Thoughts?
WLB is pretty good in general.
WLB is good in general
Have you seen Aurora stock since they went ipo? Zoox is the more stable and better av company imo
Zoox is the obvious choice here. Aurora’s struggling and the entire industry knows it, but IMO our culture is very transparent and our WLB is above most start ups and FAANGs. Don’t let Aurora swoon you with a senior title, ZARs are what you’re gonna want even in the worst market conditions.
How are ZARS value sets? Where is this number published?
Published on the internal site and updated yearly. Went up 20% in the last year despite the current market. Definitely being held down by market conditions tho so the upside is still there
So far mostly commented by Zoox ppl and trashing Aurora. I’d hear Aurora ppl thoughts
What YOE ? Suggest Zoox but depends on TC offered
I would recommend talking to folks at both companies, ideally in teams closest to yours. Buy them some drinks and get the low-down. Both companies are large enough that you will love some teams and dislike others imo. I say this because it's interesting to hear Zoox people dissing on Aurora. Here, the perception is that - most top talent has fled Zoox post Amazon acquisition (or is trying to now). - Zoox was trying to do too much (build a car; solve autonomy; solve ride hailing). - Amazon is going to squeeze Zoox, kind of like it did with Kiva (where again, most top talent fled after the first year or so). How true is this today? 🤷♂️ I can't deny that Amazon backing makes Zoox much less risky, but Aurora does have decently deep pockets and I'm bullish that they'll be able to pull off the next funding round.

Is meta really worth the wait?
For zoox, sim senior manager is pretty solid imo. Lots of scope and autonomy. Infra is scaling a lot these days. Would recommend.
