Please evaluate my Zulily offer role - Data Scientist II (got downgraded from Sr. Interviewed for Sr) base - 150k yearly bonus - 5% of base Stock - 25% of base given every year for as long as I stay in the company location - Seattle, WA Current role: Senior Data Scientist base - 167k yearly bonus - 40k location - Miami, Florida no stock Zulily’s offer is 🥜. Thinking to negotiate for Senior Data Scientist. Recruiter says that I am very close to Senior level. The base, the yearly bonus and stock are all peanuts. No mention of sign on and relocation. Please advice on how I can negotiate.
In usual blind fashion: Current TC or GTFO 😉 The yearly bonus is dependent on what level you are, so you’re getting screwed out of money coming in as a 2 as opposed to senior. Also it’s dependent on how well the company does which is something totally out of your control. We had a good year last year (thank you COVID), however I don’t expect that to be the case every year. I don’t think you’ll be able to negotiate on title (IMO Zulily is stingy about giving senior to people outside coming in), but you for sure should negotiate on your base salary and ask for a sign on bonus especially with the other offer in hand. Not sure about relocation.
Thanks for the suggestion. Current TC is already in the post. I will try to negotiate base. How are stocks paid? the recruiter mentioned that the 25% is subject to change.
My mistake, I totally misread your comment. I thought your current TC was another offer you had. I mean that means this zulily offer doesn’t even beat your current TC. I think you need to think of a TC you’d be happy with and be upfront with the recruiter that this offer currently doesn’t make sense for you to leave your current job and that you’d move for X TC. Ideally you’d have another offer in hand to use, but if you don’t (unethical advice incoming) I have known other people in the past just lie about other offers and used that to get an offer. As for stock, I’ve never heard of stock being paid out this way. 🤔 Stocks unfortunately vest yearly. What I have seen happen is you get hired for X stock, equally vested over 4 years (example 100k vesting over 4 years means you get 25k/year). Then every year at review you will get more stock that takes another amount of time (I think it’s additionally 4 years) to vest. So you’re at least adding more stock to your TC (granted the stock at zulily sucks, don’t expect it to go up).
Get another job offer, and then tell Zulily

No clue, I’m only DS II. But I think the best tool for negotiation is multiple offers
