find a path to senior/ principal architect if you are interested in technology
If you are more of management person, then start managing sales teams and move up that ladder
Moving up in sales can be frustrating and not as easy as engineering
Where are you trying to go? IMO there isn’t really a path to just keep progressing as a pure Sales Engineer after 7-10 years. If you love sales then move to Sales. If you love the deep technical and working with customers on their solutions, move to Solution Architect. Can also move to being a PM, PMM, or TME. Obviously SE leadership is a path as well.
Do you mean the following :- PM as in Product Manager or Project Manager or Program Manager? PMM - Project Marketing Manager TME - Technical Mxxx Exxx This is what I was keen to know - what is the SE leadership path? I searched high and dry on linked in but there are hardly any roles likes Presales Director or VP Presales.. . I work for a non FAANG mid-size company (1800 employees) on a regional role. Hypothetically how would this translate to which level in a FAANG company?
Yea pretty much move to AE, PM, stay a principal SE, or move into SE management.
@vAYm02 - I was leading a team of 5 presales in my company, reporting to the VP directly. Then it was acquired and 3 out 5 were let go or assigned to new dept under new management. Among two left, the territories were divided. I would like to get in product management/solution engineering side, so technical but not-coding job.
